So let me get this straight.....we're in Demolition Man mode?

Looking over the "banned gun list" proposed by Senator Feinstein's AWB she proposed to "get assault weapons off the streets".  Hmmm....here's the list...

Please notice how the "list" is presented as a continual run on of names, sort of alphabetically listed but here and there you will find one listed as if someone said "hey I watched this movie last night and they had this scary looking gun on it named XXXXX, put it on the list!" while somebody was typing.

Wow, what a lineup....

Basically, all of the "usual suspects" are listed....AK, AR, UZI, the TEC-9, MAC-11 and the like, even if some of those are rarely used in crimes anyway....they obviously look scary, and therefore must be banned.  Just throw logic out the window I guess when putting together a bunch of names that you know nothing about people....I mean if you are going to try and pass a "banned list" at least give me the satisfaction of knowing you put a little thought into this thing first and know what you are talking about...

Lets take a look at a few examples....

This is the Ruger Mini-14, its a semi-automatic, gas operated, magazine fed, shoulder fired rifle in .223 caliber that has never been in service with the military....

It's banned.

This is the Springfield M1A, its a semi-automatic, gas operated, magazine fed, shoulder fired rifle in .308 caliber that is directly based on the M14 service rifle that has been in use since the 1950's...

It's not banned.  It must not be as scary looking...either that or one of the folks on the Senators staff obviously looked up "assault rifles" on Google and saw the Mini-14 and listed it and then maybe saw the M1A and thought they were the same thing.

Another example...

The SIG 550, this is a semi or fully automatic, gas operated, magazine fed, shoulder fired rifle in 5.56mm caliber that is an actual assault rifle, good job Senator, you actually got one classified right.  However, since its fully automatic and made after 1986 in a foreign country, its already ineligible to be imported or sold to civilians to begin with.  However, fully automatic weapons made prior to 1986 are still eligible to be purchased if the buyer can pass a strict background check and pay a tax stamp to the federal government.  Either way, you banning does nothing for this particular firearm...

This is the SIG 556, its a semi-automatic, semi-automatic, gas operated, magazine fed, shoulder fired rifle in 5.56mm caliber that is legal to own in this country.  As you like to point out, its based on a military rifle, the SIG 550 above you have proposed to "double ban" with your proposal (kind of like double secret probation).  Its not on your list but it operates the same way as your feared AK or AR listed...one pull of the trigger for one round being fired...

Meanwhile...my beloved M1 Carbine,  which the government refused to be allowed to be re-imported back from Korea, whom borrowed them from us, because its an "assault weapon"...isn't even on the list!!

So clearly, its not the actual functioning or existing prohibition or laws that you are basing your decisions on...but the normal fear based feelings that your liberal ideology embrace that makes your decsions.  Hmmm...this sounds familiar....ah yes....John Spartan...San Angeles....Simon Phoenix....1993 movie...Stallone....Snipes....DEMOLITION MAN!

In the movie a rogue police officer (Stallone) and his arch nemesis (Snipes) are frozen in a cryogenic state and are awakened in a future where all types of vice have been made illegal.  Cursing, alcohol, nicotine, sexual relations, fatty food....you name it.  The populace has been conditioned and reduced to a sniveling group of like minded wussies needing constant emotional support and reinforcement (you can see them at kiosks with computers telling them how great they are) that not only abhor violence, but can't handle simple confrontations without extreme guidance...even the police.   In the end it takes an old time cop to catch an old time villian when the wussies can't do the job...they might get their feelings hurt.

Overall, I like this movie...its still fun to watch 20 years later and its got both action and comedy going for it as well as some of the best rat burgers ever put to film!

Anyway, I see a very frightening parallel between this movie and this piece of legislation.  In both, the government is letting fear and emotion over ride logic and reasoning.  Both seek to replace personal freedom with perceived safety from perceived fears.  I say "perceived", because just like in the move where the citizenry had allowed themselves to think they were safe but were not, this legislation will not help us be safe by banning weapons.  In both the movie and anti-gun legislation the bad guys simple don't follow the law!! All anti-gun bills do is to create "victim rich environments" for those that would seek to do harm to plunder.  Let's not let this happen...contact your representatives, senators and anyone else you can think of....yes, even the White House.  Let them all know you object to this infringement on our 2nd Amendment rights and freedom.  Let them know regardless of their publicly stated opinion on the subject.  Let them know you want to "freeze" anti-gun legislation where it stands!!

I still haven't figured out those 3 sea shells though.....
