Frank Buckles is 110 today. A far cry from the 16 years of age he was when he enlisted (fraudulently mind you) into the Army in 1917. After a year in England and France driving ambulances Frank lived his life normally enough...in the Phillipines. In 1941 he was captured as a civilian by the Japanese after the fall of Manilla and spent 3 harrowing years as a "guest" of the Imperial Army before being liberated.
One of his keys to living a long life..."when you start to die...don't".
Got to love the humor from someone who has been there to know it really isn't humor after all.
God bless you Frank Buckles and may he give you yet another year among us.
Frank Buckles today...the only man alive who could of been a founding member of American Legion Post #1
