I will try to make this brief because the i'net is already flooded with people speaking their piece on this issue...
The shooting of Congresswoman Giffords and the deaths of the six bystanders last week in Arizona is horrible. A tragedy pure and simple. I personally mourn for the victims and families affected by this lunatic and hope they find peace at some point.
The attack on gun ownership after this tragedy has already begun. Already Senator Lautenberg (D-NJ) has stated that he will try and introduce legislation once again limiting handgun capacity to 10 rounds after it was revealed that the assailant was using a 33 round Glock mag...just like the one I posted a pic of the other day. Truth is though, that the gun was a tool used in this attck, it wasn't the reason for the attack itself. It seems to me the more prudent question is why somebody this person knew or a family member didn't alert authorities to his mental state earlier. There were apparently plenty of signs
I know that it a standard pro 2nd Amendment response. Go ahead and write some witty comment about how I am just spouting off the recorded message that was implanted into my head by the NRA after drinking the Kool Aid and all that. Its OK, I understand. I will even post the comment. But what you will also find is my response that if my sentiment is just pro gun rhetoric then you will need to prepare yourself to defend against my next point.
The people spouting all sort of right wing conspiracy rants right after the shooting are a bunch of idots. All of them. Same thing for that idiot boy sheriff of Pima County. Its called "investigating the facts" law dog...before going on public record stating what a sad place you live in Arizona due to the political climate you better make sure that your shooter was, in fact, a member of that group you just unloaded on. This guy wasn't a right winger...apparently he really wasn't a left winger either....full blown kook...yeah that is about right.
Between the two political spectrums he was, however, much more closely aligned to the left than the right. When John Hinkley shot President Reagan due to influences from the left I don't remember anyone making a whole sale assault on Hollywood like they are trying to do to talk radio....which is predominantly a right wing medium. The left has Hollywood and the TV and film industries...the right has radio for the most part. For the record, I don't listen to much talk radio..and when I do I always try and verify what the host is saying against fact and don't accept everything on face value. Bad things happen when you just go along with the words without doing any work to understand and verify them.
The even more ironic thing about this right wing influence and "target list" crap is that Giffords is not your typical Democrat. I have said here before that the 2nd Amendment applies to all Americans, not just the right wingers. She was a "Blue Dog" Democrat and was a more moderate centralist on some issues...such as gun control. While she does want to ban "semi automatics" (most likely due to the inane "machine gun" logic) except for hunting weapons (hey, I can hunt with an AR) she is for CCW.
Bottom line....to those politicians, "advocates" and everyone else that broadly condemns the right for this shooting...screw you. To the people calling for more gun control due to this...your d-bags. And to Fred Phelps and the Westboro Baptists Church's idiot brigade that actually thought about protesting the funeral of that 9 year old girl....burn in hell bastards.
2nd Amendment to the Constitution of The United States of America
A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.
"I ask sir, what is the militia? It is the whole people except for a few politicians."
