The Walking Dead...win!

Finally got a chance to banish the family upstairs for the evening so I could watch last Sunday's premier on our cable box DVR. I got to say I liked what I saw. While not a perfect story in a few minor ways, over all the series delivered in its first try what I think a lot of us were hoping for. The makeup and special effects were very well done for a TV movie and aside from the lack of overly harsh language that we have become accustomed to from premium cable networks, this show could of aired on HBO or Showtime with the production quality it had.

There were a few things that irritated me about the show..

  • The fact that the hero actually survived an obvious zombie onslaught of the hospital behind an unlocked door or that nobody tried to save him...would of been more realistic if he woke to find himself locked in his room or the door blocked from the other side by furniture placed there by some nurse or orderly to protect him.
  • The hero isn't THE sheriff, just a deputy, yet gets to carry a custom duty weapon in a different caliber than the duty gun used by everyone else in the first scene? (.357 vs. Glocks)
  • The guy had access to a sheriff's station complete with an armory, communications and self sufficient utilities..why didn't the father and son stay there instead of going back to the house when the hero left to find his family?
  • The survivor group seems to be made up of all of our stock "small group vs. the zombies" members, the former soldier or cop, the good looking woman, the kid, the old guy...didn't meet them all but there will probably be a minority and/or a total prick too to fill out the group.
All minor gripes that probably just add to the story line in the long run, for example the father leaving the police station to go home with his new rifle to kill his zombie wife. Still, it looks like it will be a damn fine addition to the zombie onslaught in popular culture that we are experiencing.

Walking Dead. The father and son went back to the house so the father could shoot his zombie wife, altho he couldnt do it.
