Check out this video of Jay Leno quizzing people on the street about basic Independence Day trivia at about a 3rd grade level...
sad...just plain sad..
At about 4:19 in the video you see something that is very telling...Dad and Mom have no clue, then their son has no clue, finally Grandpa comes in and saves the day. Mom and Dad are about my age (late 30's early 40's), their kid is in his teens and the Grandpa is 60-something. What does this say about our education system? It tells me sometime around 1970 or so we lost sight of what a public education is for. Its not for forcing social agendas into the populace but for educating our youth to become productive members of society. I will admit that I grew up in this system but through good parenting and perhaps some social advantages I was able to grasp the basics of literacy, mathematics and social and physical sciences to where I can contribute to society.
Maybe this is why so many of my fellow countrymen are willing to give away our personal freedoms to the government for a promise of a piece of cheese at the end of the maze. They have forgotten what we fought for independence for in the first place.
God help us all..

"I ask sir, what is the militia? It is the whole people except for a few politicians."
